Medieval City of Rhodes (1988)
The short answer

Rhodes’ Medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built by the Knights of St John in the 14th–16th centuries and is one of Europe’s best-preserved fortified towns. Lindos, with its hilltop acropolis and white village, is a day trip away.

The Knights Hospitaller ruled Rhodes from 1309 until the Ottoman conquest in 1522. They left an astonishing city of walls, gates and the Street of the Knights, along with the Palace of the Grand Master.

Outside the walls, Rhodes offers some of the warmest sea in Greece, thanks to its position near Turkey, with a season often stretching into late October.

Highlights
